The Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act 2024 was finally signed by the President of Pakistan. The law had gone missing for almost a year after being passed by the Parliament.

This new legislation marks a significant advancement in environmental protection and wildlife conservation within Islamabad.

The Act grants the Wildlife Board enhanced authority to oversee and manage the natural resources effectively. It establishes a comprehensive framework to safeguard the capital’s unique biodiversity, ensuring a healthy environment for future generations.

A notable feature of the legislation is its provision for internal revenue generation, aimed at supporting the management of Margallah Hills National Park. This will enable sustainable resource management and the long-term conservation of the park’s vital ecosystem. The Act also introduces realistic fines and penalties to enforce accountability and protect the environment.

This legislation represents a crucial milestone in protecting Islamabad’s natural heritage.
