Can you recall a time when chicken would only be eaten on special occasions? Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. You might be horrified to find out that nearly two million chickens are slaughtered for their meat every day in Australia alone.
But that’s not even the worst part. The latest ‘Fast Food, Slow Progress’ report found nearly all Aussie fast-food companies including KFC are guilty of using chickens that are bred to grow so unnaturally fast, their bodies cannot keep up.
These chickens often suffer from debilitating pain as they grow faster than their heart and lungs can carry. No animal deserves to endure such cruelty for financial gain.
Will you please call on KFC, one of the biggest players in the industry to put a stop to the suffering their chickens experience?
Chickens are naturally intelligent birds who want nothing more than to be able to perch, dustbathe, and forage for food in a natural environment.
But you will be shocked to know that over 40,000 of these birds can be crammed into a single factory farm shed in Australia. Adding to their misery, they are bred to reach slaughter weight in six short weeks. The equivalent of a 3 kg human baby reaching 300 kg under two months.
But it does not have to be this way.
More than 500 leading food companies across the US, UK, Europe, and New Zealand have signed the Better Chicken Commitment to improve chicken welfare, but only one has done so in Australia so far.
With a whopping 75% of Aussies regularly eating fast food, signing the BCC is the single most impactful change fast-food companies can make to improve the welfare of millions of chickens who needlessly suffer behind the closed doors of factory farms.
