In May 2010, the Sindh Minister for Wildlife Dr Daya Ram Essrani told the Sindh Assembly that there are 52 private zoos existing in the Sindh province for which licences have been issued by the Wildlife Department, the regulatory authority for enforcement of wildlife laws.

He said that Section 10(1) of the Sindh Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1972 allows for setting up of a private zoo on payment of prescribed fees to the Sindh Wildlife Department.

He further said that private zoo licences were issued on a form “F” on payment of Rs 10,000.

The Minister expressed these views while replying to a query of MPA Nusrat Seher Abbasi during the question hour of the Sindh Assembly session.
